Africa Day One - fishing for what?

Hi all! Made it safely home today to my lovely wife Heather. We just spent a few hours looking at photos and discussing the trip. It's already fun reminiscing about the new things that I encountered.

Where or where to begin... let's start chronologically. Day one involved flying, so no big news there. The Johannesburg airport is world class, but most things that will be used for the 2010 World Cup seem to be first rate. The country is definitely upgrading everything from mass transit, roads, stadiums, hotels, etc.

Day two Pieter, Jackie, and I drove east towards Mozambique. Along the way we stopped at a banana, sugar cane, and mango plantation about 45 mins from the boarder. There we met some of their friends who managed the farm and set out to try and catch a tiger fish. Although we didn't catch any tigers' Lionel (boat driver) had a backup plan.

Once the sunset they brought out a spotlight to try and see hippos and crocodiles. You can spot the crocs by their bright red eyes and depending on the size we would cruise up to them and try and catch them.

As you can see in the below picture, Ryan had some success! He caught this two year old croc. Then the guys had me give it a shot and although my attempt was pretty weak, I can say that I stuck my hand in the water to try and snag a smaller croc. Lucky for all of us, Mom and Dad crocodile were not lurking close by to give one of us a proper bite!
